Welcome to the Chapel
The spiritual center of our daily life is the little six-sided
chapel on the hill. There seems to be an endless universe inside
this small shrine. We always feel more “at-home” here than in any
other place on earth. When we are away, especially in challenging
times, this is the place we hold in our thoughts and prayers. Many
who have visited us feel the same way. In this section we invite
our friends to participate in our chapel experiences in a number
of ways.
We very much believe in the importance of SOLIDARITY or standing
together at challenging times, and we invite people to share the
issues in their lives. When you click on
solidarity@starcross.org
an automatic email comes up. Just write down anything
you wish and send it to us. When we receive it we will
show it to each other and put it in a basket in the chapel to remind
us every day for a month.
We invite friends to share with us a
QUIET MOMENT of meditation. Here you will find one approach
to the ancient monastic prayer practice traditionally called
LECTIO DIVINA.
For many years haiku has been a unique aspect of our spiritual
life. For a general statement about this form of poetry go to
HAIKU. From there you can go to
a more detailed introduction to
HAIKU WRITING and learn more about one of our favorite poets,
ISSA.
Remembering those who have died and reaching out to the
grieving
has always been a natural part of our lives. Each evening at Vespers
we read names from our Memorial Books. To have some one you love
included in that act of remembrance go to
MEMORIAL and fill out the brief
form. We have also cleared an area in our Garden of Memories to
enable friends, without cost, to have a place for the cremated remains
of loved ones as is now allowed under California law.
We are dedicating trees in our olive orchard to honor the living
or remember those who have died. If you would like to know more,
go to OLIVE TREE DEDICATION..
